Through counselling children with learning disabilities can develop ways to cope with their disabilities. Getting help earlier increases the chance of success in school and later in life. If learning disabilities remain untreated, a child may begin to feel frustraed, which can lead to low self -esteem and other problems.
Counselling can help a child learn skills by building on the child’s strengths and finding ways to compensate for the child’s weaknesses. Problems associated with learning disability like depression, anxiety, fears or other behavioural problems can be reduced through counselling.
3. Autism spectrum Home based treatment plan and psycho- education for Autism Spectrum Disorder is provided to improve the overall functioning of the child and to manage difficult behaviours due to ASD.
Parents will be counselled to understand the patterns of behaviour of the child and to increase desired behaviour patterns and reduced undesired behaviour patterns.
4. Anxiety, Depression & Fear
Counselling sessions are provided to reduce the features of anxiety, fear or depression in a child. There are many things that can affect a child, and at different ages. While these are a normal part of growing up, if it’s starting to affect their overall health and well-being, professional support may be needed.
Signs of anxiety in children include:
• irritable, clingy or tearful behaviour • difficulty sleeping or waking in the night • nightmares • lack of confidence • lack of concentration • loss of appetite • avoiding everyday activities, like socialising or going to school
Common signs of depression in children include:
• sadness, or low mood lasting a long time • being irritable or grumpy • they’re always tired • having trouble sleeping • isolating themselves from friends and family • low confidence • talking about feeling worthless or guilty • Some children may also show physical symptoms, such as feeling sick or headaches.
Effective counselling is used to reduce the above mentioned difficulties in children to improve the overall functioning of the children.
5. Behavioural Problems
All young children can be naughty, defiant and impulsive from time to time, which is perfectly normal. However, some children have extremely difficult and challenging behaviours that are outside the norm for their age.
The most common disruptive behaviour disorders include :-
• Oppositional defiant disorder • Conduct disorder • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
Management and effective psychological counselling is provided to reduce the problematic behaviour patterns in children.
6. Mobile or Internet addiction
While a smartphone, tablet, or computer can be a hugely productive tool, compulsive use of these devices can interfere with work, school, and relationships. When you spend more time on social media or playing games than you do interacting with real people, or you can’t stop yourself from repeatedly checking texts, emails, or apps even when it has negative consequences in your life—it may be time to reassess your technology use.
Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a way of exploring what is behind your need for connection. It can also allow you to explore other ways of feeling connected, without the digital stimulation. The ultimate goal of counselling is to help individuals either reduce or stop their addiction altogether, depending on their specific needs and goals. Though each counsellor will have their own unique way of working, sessions may involve exploring different ways of dealing with certain urges and triggers and exploring the origins of the problem and the underlying reason for your addiction.
